However, I need to clear up one misconception I keep seeing over and over again in the comments across this sub: for some reason, a lot of people think that an AUM advisor is different than "fee-only" advisor. This is not true! An AUM is a type of fee. What you want is a flat-fee planner! Fee only = AUM OR flat fee Flat fee = could be a flat fee for a one-time plan AND/OR an annual/quarterly flat fee for ongoing management Fee-based = AUM + commissions on product sales
