I have poured my soul into this project- and I made this video to explain why, and how this all is going to fit together. Come build a city with us, onchain, window by window. Special thanks to my dear friend [Spoken audio]: The illuminated worlds of New York City have long been an inspiration for many artists. There's no sensation quite like walking through and seeing this glow all around you. And that's one of the fascinations I have with this place and why I love documenting it so much. Hey everybody, my name is Dave Krugman. I'm a Brooklyn-based photographer and for over 20 years I've been absolutely obsessed with this craft. Specifically, within this craft, I love the idea of typologies. Typologies are when you pick a system and you identify a pattern that you really love. You just iterate. You create a system that produces art basically. So you make a set of rules, and out of those rules emerges a beautiful grid of connected objects. I've done that with Drive, which is a typology of cars. I've done that with DripTrop, which is the typology of rain hitting puddles in Times Square. And now, in my biggest undertaking ever, I am releasing a project called Windows. This all sort of began one night when I was walking home and I always had my camera on me and I'm always looking around for interesting things and interesting photographs and I looked up and I saw this perfectly illuminated amber frame and in that frame was a black cat and it's kind of licking its paw and looking out the window and I was looking back at this cat and I made the photograph and I went home I sat with it and I was like this is such an incredible moment and then after that I started looking at windows in general and I noticed how much variety and how many stories were packed into these dense frames. And to me I understood in that moment that this was another typology that I could study. So for five years I have focused on this task of the stories that are told in the frames that people show to us. And that to me is a really fascinating story and it's a story of New York City. And everybody who walks through a major metropolitan city has had this sensation of who are behind all these windows, what's inside, what's going on, what's going on around us. And so So for me, I wanted to present this in a way where you can take that five years and look through my eyes in one instant and you can experience the feelings that I've experienced over this time as well. I have put a tremendous amount of time and energy into actually making this work over five years, window by window, but there's been an equal effort in thinking about how to best present this body of work to the world. So on June 16th with Transient Labs, we invite you to build a city alongside us. This is comprised of three different sections that are all intricately interconnected. At first we started at the individual level. There's going to be 1,000 different photographs of windows that all have a bit of individuality within the larger typology. Next, we're going to move to the community level, and we're going to mint buildings, which are grids of windows that are referenced from the original windows that we've already minted. After that, there's going to be a beautiful one-of-one that references the buildings themselves, and that's going to look like this giant biological circuit board that we're all a part of together and I hope that this project can bring some more connection to people and I hope that we can all get a little bit closer in a bit of a celebration of our shared humanity. I feel this incredible sense of catharsis finally sharing this work with the world after sitting with it for so long in relative silence and solitude and I just want to express my gratitude towards everybody who has helped me shape this idea to all the people that have shared it along the way and also just to the general upwelling of support around this concept. I have a lot more information to share with you guys, but for now I just want to say I am so excited to see what we build together.
