JPYC is not a cryptocurrency but an electronic payment method, so it is not treated as a virtual currency. It can be used in the same way as Japanese yen.

NEW: Amazon Japan supplier AZ-Com Maruwa to pay 2,300 partners, including truck drivers, using regulated yen stablecoin JPYC, Japan's first large-scale corporate stablecoin rollout. [Spoken audio]: While Bitcoin is still nursing its bear market hangover, Japan just quietly did something actually useful with a token. AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings, a Tokyo-listed logistics firm that's been delivering packages for Amazon Japan since 2017, is going to pay its business partners in JPYC, the country's regulated yen stablecoin. That's around 2,300 subcontractors and independent truck drivers getting settled on-chain. Nikkei is calling it Japan's first large-scale corporate stablecoin rollout. And honestly, I believe them. Some context on the company. Maruwa did 230.5 billion yen in revenue last fiscal year, about $1.4 billion, so this isn't some startup running an experiment on three interns. And JPYC itself is the grown-up kind of stablecoin. Pegged one-to-one, fully backed by bank deposits and Japanese government bonds, licensed under the Payment Services Act since October. Circulation just crossed 2 billion yen. The Y is very Japanese, labor shortages, an aging workforce, tighter overtime rules. Truckers are scarce, and near-instant free conversion to yen is a genuinely attractive perk when you're competing for drivers. Marrow is also reportedly weighing a formal partnership with the issuer and a 1 billion yen investment in the token. Add last week's news that Lawson, the convenience store giant, pilots JPYC at its Takenawa Gateway Store from early August, and you've got retail and B2B adoption landing in the same fortnight. So here's what I'd trade. JPYC on-chain circulation doubles past four billion yen by the end of September. Hit or miss? This is Sarah White, reporting for hit.com.
