The Coldcard hardware wallet hack is part of why high‑net‑worth investors and institutions choose BlackRock’s $IBIT ETF for #Bitcoin exposure. Safety, insurance, and inheritance matter.

Ragnar @RoaringRagnar · 2026-08-01T14:31:58+00:00

Self custody died yesterday. ~1,082.65 BTC (roughly $70 million), have now been stolen from Coldcard wallets. It involved 1,196 addresses that were fully drained. The era of self custody is over. I will recommend $IBIT , $MSTR and $STRC for Bitcoin exposure going forward.

$BTC $DVOL For those of you who have been around for a few months you know I put on a massive crypto short with IBIT/ETHA puts from 78-82k a few months ago. I remember when we first released downwards it was more of a grind and while BTC moved down to 75k, vol also declined

A BTC Volatility Index (DVOL) chart on TradingView showing the metric at 35.73 (+0.25%), with price action declining from a May peak near 68 down to the low 30s range by early August. The chart visually illustrates the post's point—volatility dropped significantly as Bitcoin moved lower, supporting the idea that implied vol compresses during a grinding decline rather than a sharp selloff.

I think 98% of most people who are holders of bitcoin $BTC either through a spot ETF like $IBIT or also hold shares of $MSTR have 0 clue what BIP 110 is nor do they care

Think an ETF removes all the risk of losing your #Bitcoin? Think again. Read the fine print in the $IBIT prospectus. If the custodian loses the keys or gets hacked, they are NOT liable unless you can prove "willful misconduct, gross negligence, reckless disregard or bad faith."

I can't pay for my burger at @SteaknShake with IBIT. Bitcoin self-custody and using it as a currency is what matters. Someone telling you to buy IBIT reveals what they want out of bitcoin, which is fine too. They are just dollar maxis and bitcoin is "just" an investment.

Is $IBIT the best way to hold now? As above. Since hardware can still get hacked… would $IBIT technically be the safest way to hodl and stack bitcoin?

Is $IBIT the best way to hold now? (x-post from /r/Bitcoin)

Rex @R89Capital · 2026-08-01T15:25:14+00:00

With Coinbase you always have to worry about them randomly deciding to lock your account, which they do to people all the time IBIT is the superior option
