Β· 2026-07-17T14:20:59+00:00Five years in crypto is a long time. Multiple cycles. Multiple narratives. Multiple market structures. So what allows a protocol to survive? In @samkazemian 's latest conversation, he shared his perspective on why $Frax has lasted while many others disappeared. The answer [Spoken audio]: Yeah, I mean well honestly the first thing the the foundation of it is based on the team the organization and and how we've structured everything and the fact that you know, I'm Super bullish continue to be this like career to make this a huge huge thing for me for the team for Everyone there and I think kind of gets into kind of the recent token equity stuff and like how these things work work and also just needing to adjust to realities in terms of products. One of the things is that stablecoins as an asset class are different structurally, right? So if you don't have the right product and you want to be in the stablecoin issuance or payments or these kind of games, you kind of have to understand that the base asset that everyone's going to be using is payment or quoting or liquidity or on lending markets. It essentially has to be a quasi riskless stablecoin. And then you can have yield bearing either vaults or tokens, whatever you want to call them, right? But they can actually take risk for good risk adjusted yields, right? So when you think about something like Athena, the places that use USDE, they usually get streamed the carry trade or the underlying whether it's on centralized exchanges or other places. So it's quasi-SUSDE, right? It's just the token is slightly just called something else, right? Or in like lending leverage places, it's just SUSDE because the account is easier, right? So there's just these two stablecoin views where if you have a risky stablecoin, you must pay interest for it or some kind of reward because it does not make sense for banks, institutions, payment processors, merchants, all of these things that are now finally because of the Genius Act, that legalizes some form of stable coins. They're not going to take a really risky stable coin and hold it on their balance sheet without getting paid some risk, interest risk-adjusted yield. That's one of the main things is adapting to the current market structure is important and actually being able to build in the new realities and kind of think about where the market is going, what the market wants. I totally respect liquidity and bold and the decentralized stablecoin thesis. It's not the largest stablecoin thesis. There's not going to be merchants and things quoting in decentralized stablecoin just because structurally they can't and they don't want to. So I think the main part of your question is it's team and structure and leadership. A lot of these projects, they launch a token, team either sold or they just went off to to do other things or it was just, you know, one, I call it one cycle projects. And then the second part is after you've figured out how to keep the organization long term oriented, which is a very big thing with FRAX, like we're not going anywhere, right? We're going to continue to build is to actually build the right thing, right? Which is step two, but most of the projects fall off it at step one. But you see stuff like Aave, right? people forget. It was a 2017-18 ICO project. It was called ETHLEN originally, right? And they've had this resurgence since, I think, about like two years ago, right? Two and a half, two years ago, where they really solidified themselves as the lending market. And so I think it's just making sure that you continue to build when the time is right, build the right thing. It's kind of like also what we talked about with Polymarket, right? Like we talked about this, Dave, where prediction markets for the longest time was basically something everyone continued to try and fail at, right? Like Augur was the first ICO in ETH, it was I think 2016, that's a decade ago, right? And then they launched their protocol and then they did the V2 forking prediction market thing in like 2018 or 19 or something like that, there was like Omen, other ones just like, you know, I forget all their names and then they all pivoted out, right? And Pauli Market was started in 2020, right, by our friend Shane, and key credit to him for the first couple of years, there wasn't really significant, you know, traction or like volume or TVL or anything to put that on the map. It was a cool project. It was something that he was working on. If he had pivoted, if he was a single cycle project, if he was like, hey, look, this doesn't seem like it's going anywhere after two to three years. Everyone's tried this. Why did I try it? I tried it and it didn't go anywhere. But he kept at it. He had the conviction to be long-term oriented. And then when the market structure was correct, when everyone wanted to use these prediction markets with stable coins, no complicated like weird crypto economic forking or like using a utility token, it was just like, here's your dollars, put it in here from your non-pistodial wallet, right? And the contracts or on-chain smart contracts, they're by each market individually, right structure, right time, right place, and he kept that and look, you know, the rest is history, right? And so I think the important thing is knowing that you're building for the right things at the right time.
