$50 million is roughly what it costs to connect a 100 megawatt data center to the grid, and 95% of that gets socialized into ratepayer bills instead of paid by the developer, per a Union of Concerned Scientists analysis of PJM data. Filecoin already exists at exabyte scale.

20% to 40% is how much cloud budgets are overrunning at more than a third of organizations, often driven by egress fees running $0.08 to $0.12 per gigabyte, per industry cost analyses. Filecoin storage pricing carries no egress fee to overrun any budget with.

A split illustration contrasts two cloud storage models: the left side depicts a centralized cloud with databases funneling through toll gates (labeled "TOLL") with red arrows showing expensive egress fees draining budget, while the right side shows a distributed global network of interconnected nodes routing file storage peer-to-peer without tolls. The visual emphasizes the post's point that Filecoin's decentralized storage eliminates the $0.08–$0.12/GB egress fees causing 20–40% cloud budget overruns.

125% to 130% is how much Gartner projects DRAM prices will rise year over year in 2026, as Western Digital CEO says the company is sold out on hard drives for the entire year. Filecoin providers deploy on hardware that's already paid for and already running.

$822 billion is Gartner's newest 2026 forecast for global data center systems spending, up 62.5% from $506 billion in 2025. Gartner analyst called it 'the largest infrastructure project ever attempted by humanity.' Filecoin capacity is already here and distributed.

re crypto x ai its tricky, it might have similar end as filecoin which at some point seem crazy and innovative idea for decentralised cloud and the thesis around world computer niche apps works, but not scale most people have no clue at all around whats convergence of crypto
