· 2026-10-10T21:10:02+00:00Think breaking into private equity is just like banking interviews? Wrong. In PE interviews, they’re not testing if you “know finance”—they assume you do. They’re testing if you can think like an investor. Can you spot what makes a deal attractive? Can you build

· 2026-10-10T22:46:01.328000+00:00Has anyone made an unconventional career pivot after a short PE stint? I'm 1.5 years out of undergrad (finance) and work in direct investing. I was promoted to Senior Analyst already, make ~C$170–185k all-in, have good WLB for the field, 5 weeks of vacation + 2 remote work weeks, and work on a pretty relaxed team. Objectively, this is probably one of the best PE gigs in my city, and the comp relative to COL make for great level of disposable income. The problem is that my motivation is extremely low, and I can't stop thinking about my next move. I know I don't want to keep living in this city, but have no idea where I'd go. Work isn't particularly stressful, and my social life has actually improved recently, so I'm not sure what's driving this. Maybe I'm just in a slump, or maybe this field isn't for me, regardless of how good the job is on paper.

· 2026-10-10T22:37:48.490000+00:00Microsoft made $47 billion more in operating cash flow, but its free cash flow actually fell. Is AI spending becoming a problem? Microsoft’s latest full-year numbers caught my attention. Comparing fiscal 2025 with fiscal 2026: •Operating cash flow: $136.2B → $182.9B •Cash spent on property and equipment: $64.6B → $115.9B •Free cash flow (operating cash flow minus those purchases): $71.6B → $67.0B So the business generated almost $47 billion MORE operating cash, but ended up with about $4.6 billion LESS free cash flow. That’s a pretty interesting situation for one of the biggest companies in the world. The bullish argument makes sense: Microsoft is investing heavily in infrastructure because cloud and AI demand are growing. Revenue was up 18%, and operating income grew 21%.
