While reading the book *Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid*, I had this strong feeling: Among all art forms, music is the closest to the beauty of mathematics. The repetition, variation, and structure in melodies are actually a visual (or audible) expression of

An infographic titled "Markov Chains" from manicslang.com illustrates the concept with musical notes (D5, E5, B4, G4, D5, A4, C5, E4, C4) connected by transition probabilities (e.g., 100%), and below features a piano keyboard alongside the sheet music for Beethoven's "Für Elise." The image visually demonstrates how the mathematical concept of Markov chains—where the next state depends only on the current one—mirrors the structured, probabilistic flow of musical compositions like Beethoven's iconic piece, supporting the idea that music embodies mathematical beauty through repetition and variation.

Knowing how to handle a difficult conversation ≠ actually handling one. So I asked OLi to Role Play an underperforming employee. Its instructions: Push back. Make it realistic. Don’t make it easy. Then critique my approach. Practise before the consequences are real.

It’s 3 AM, I have a software engineering degree, and my career plan still won’t compile? Dear fellow programmers, software engineers, and people who somehow figured out what to do with their lives, First, let me explain my situation. I got into Software Engineering in 2022 with a high university entrance ranking, but honestly, it wasn’t a very deliberate career choice. I thought the field had a bright future, so I never seriously considered transferring to another department. Now, with graduation coming up in January, I’m facing two problems: I’m about to receive a degree in a field I’m not sure I want to work in, and I’m worried about the current job market. Thanks to my network and some connections, I might be able to get a position in the IT department of a large company. However, I don’t think that alone would be fulfilling for me in the long run. I feel like I need to understand myself better, combine my software engineering background with another field or industry, specialize in that intersection, and build my career around it. I don’t think AI is necessarily the answer for me. I’m skeptical about the hype surrounding it, especially when I compare the broad employment opportunities created by years of software development and digitalization with the employment opportunities AI is creating. Software and digitalization created demand across a wide range of roles over many years, and I’m not sure AI will follow the same path. So I’m considering exploring a completely different industry, but I’m struggling to figure out which direction to take. I have two main questions: For example, has anyone specialized in finance, international trade, robotics, manufacturing, or another industry? How did you get there, and what would you do differently if you were starting over today? For example, are there people who studied computer science or software engineering and eventually became finance directors, international trade specialists, or something unrelated to programming? What steps did you take? Did your degree give you an advantage, or did you essentially have to start from scratch? I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve actually made these transitions, including the mistakes they made and the challenges they faced. I have a degree coming up and an opportunity to rethink my career before committing to a path I might regret later. I’d rather make a deliberate decision now than just take the first available job and figure things out years down the line. Thanks to anyone willing to share their experience and advice.
