I had a 350/360 vertical spread that expires today, with the stock trading around 362 (353 to 360 first hour of open). I ended up walking my closure from $9 -> $8.5 because the bid ask (~$3-$12) spread was pretty wide, and didnt want to get shafted at the bid price if the position was auto closed by fidelity. It was filled at 8.50 at 1:55PM EST. But that raises the question - what is the actual time fidelity will sell to close? I wouldve been willing to wait 30- 90 minutes longer to see if I could get a higher price from my option- but the thing making me willing to take a discount is the risk of auto closing the position. Its unclear to me if even waiting until 1PM/ 2PM was too risky.
