We can thank moderate wind shear caused by El Niño for holding back Hurricane Isaias from becoming a Category 5 superstorm. However, pressure continues to fall regardless. Isaias has a good chance to become a Category 3 major hurricane in next 24-hours.

Rain in Cape Verde (Sal) Hi everyone! I’m currently staying in Santa Maria, Sal, and it’s my last full day here. It’s started raining this morning, and my weather app is now predicting rain for the next 5 days. I’ve always heard that Sal is extremely dry and that it barely ever rains, and one of our tour guides even told us that they’d had hardly any rain last year. My weather app has also been really inaccurate throughout this holiday. It’ll predict thick cloud and overcast skies all day, but then we’ll end up having beautiful blue skies and sunshine for hours. The forecast also seems to change constantly. So I’m wondering, For anyone who lives in Sal or has visited around this time of year, how accurate have you found the weather forecasts to be? Does the rain usually come in short showers with sunshine in between, or can it genuinely rain all day for several days in a row? I’d really appreciate any insight, especially as it’s my last full day here and I’d love to make the most of it! Thanks!

Isaias is already putting on a show here in the Carolinas. These tropical systems spread high cirrus clouds our way, which contain ice crystals. That leads to incredible views like these, as the light from the sun refracts (bends) through those small ice crystals in the sky.
