We want to use as much EU as possible - for ideological reasons, but also for data privacy, resilience & latency reasons. Mistral mostly was useful to use if it a) had to be strictly on EU infra and b) had to be reliable. This was almost never the case, so for most use cases we did default to mostly American providers, since for most of our use cases Mistral wasn’t competitive. So while mistral is not at the frontier, I can replace some old workflows that have used American models. eg in one application I could replace Sonnet 5.5 (which was best in previous benchmarking) with Mistral 4 Large. In another case I could replace a Gemini model. I got faster speed & lower cost at comparable or higher intelligence.
