A lot of people on Reddit have been saying for years that HYMC’s gold/silver resource is potentially an extremely valuable strategic asset — especially now that Brimstone and Vortex are showing much higher-grade mineralization and the company is debt-free with roughly $220M in cash. Okay. Then look at what’s actually happening. Sprott owns roughly 40%+ of the company and has become by far the largest shareholder. Now there is litigation challenging the way that control was accumulated and the corporate actions surrounding it. I’m not saying the lawsuit proves some grand conspiracy or that the plaintiff necessarily has a hidden motive. The court will deal with the actual legal claims. But I think there’s a legitimate question here: That’s the part I find interesting. Because control of a company isn’t just control of its stock. If HYMC eventually develops Brimstone/Vortex and becomes a meaningful U.S. gold and silver producer, whoever has substantial influence over the company has influence over: how the project gets financed whether it takes on debt whether it sells a stream or royalty whether it signs a major offtake whether it partners with a major how quickly it develops and ultimately how its future production is monetized That’s why I don’t think the lawsuit should be dismissed as just “someone is mad that Sprott owns a lot of shares.” Maybe the entire explanation is completely conventional: Sprott thinks HYMC is dramatically undervalued, bought a huge position, and some shareholders believe the transactions weren’t handled properly. That’s certainly possible. But there’s another question worth asking: And if the people saying HYMC owns an extraordinarily valuable strategic gold/silver resource are right, then the lawsuit itself is an interesting piece of circumstantial evidence that I’m curious how other HYMC holders interpret it. Is this simply a shareholder/fiduciary dispute? Or does the fact that control of the company itself AND ITS SUPPLY is becoming the subject of litigation tell us something about how strategically valuable Hycroft has become?
