· 2026-10-07T13:02:07.683000+00:00US Citizen in Taiwan: How Did You Get Your 401(k) to Where You Are? Long-term US expat, currently in Taiwan. I'm taking a full distribution from a 401(k) this year and need the proceeds to end up where I live. I'd like to hear from anyone who has moved a lump sum out of the US, in any country, not just Taiwan. Looking for real experience rather than theory. The constraint Fidelity will only pay out my 401(k) by EFT to a US bank account. The plan won't wire internationally. So the money has to land in a US bank first and leave from there. Travelling to the US to handle anything in person isn't an option for me. Amount is somewhere between $70k and $90k.

· 2026-10-07T21:41:04.590000+00:00What are my options if I want to retire early, but don't plan for it to be a long time? Disregard the hows and whys for this financial thought exercise. Assume I'm planning to be "no longer withdrawing" at 60. I'm currently 29 with $100k in a traditional 401(k) and $500k in a private company employee stock program. The company does not match 401(k) contributions, but I currently contribute about 3% of my $100k salary. The stock program has grown by ~40% the last few years and over it's 20ish years of existence, there has rarely been a year of single digit growth. If I want to retire at 40, and only plan to be retired until 60, what are my options? I would plan for $300k annual withdrawal, assuming worst case scenario of inflation + unexpected expenses. Realistically I would probably pay off my $200k of mortgage debt in year 1, then withdraw closer to $150-200k per year for my wife and I to live on, including health insurance. No kids and no plan to have them.
