It is a point of argument every month how we are going to make things work. I don’t want to be at employers/family members mercy. I want to make my own success in this world. I have seen people on YouTube and facebook talking about making more income through passive ways, though it all seems too good to be true. The idea of rooting around in SEC filings or trying make sense of earnings reports was about as appealing as a bowl of monkey brain soup. But losing constantly for years has a way of making things look different. Now I wonder why anyone would want to trade with less information then what is available. Now I still dont generally root around in SEC filings but earnings reports dont bother as much anymore. I am basically only looking for a couple of things so I dont spend hours on it. And I will be the first to admit that you need to get an understanding for what news matters to the markets and what doesnt, cause the talking heads are always going to find something to talk about, whether it is relevantor not.
· 2026-10-07T18:35:11.898000+00:00Using Pearson Correlation Matrices on Recent AI Signals to Detect Feedback Loops Six weeks after we let the ensemble retrain on its own fills, three models with zero shared features were firing the same signals within one bar of each other. Every standalone backtest still looked fine. The joint book had quietly become one leveraged bet. We found out from a drawdown, which is the worst alarm there is. The instrument that would have caught it early: a rolling Pearson correlation matrix over the models' own signals, read the way you'd read a temperature chart. That's about thirty lines of numpy, plus one baseline you have to capture before any of this starts. How the coupling forms The setup: five models, one per strategy sleeve. A gradient-boosted tree reads order book imbalance; an LSTM reads returns; a logistic model reads regime flags; a kNN reads cross-asset leads. Fifth sleeve doesn't matter here. Each model emits one signal per bar — a standardized score, positive means long bias. Before self-retraining switched on, pairwise signal correlations lived between 0.10 and 0.35. Different inputs, different horizons. They should disagree sometimes. Self-integration adds coupling channels, and each one looks reasonable in a PR review: A shared feature store gains a column like ensemble_dispersion, computed from the models' own outputs. Every model's training set now contains a projection of the ensemble. Another model retrains on realized slippage that your own orders moved. The blender weights models by trailing performance, so a model that agrees with the majority gets up-weighted, and the next refresh learns from a book the majority built. Threshold auto-tuning optimizes against live P&L, and that P&L came from the ensemble. Any one of these is survivable. Stack two and the training distributions start sharing a component: the ensemble's own footprint. In our incident, the correlation between the LSTM and the boosted tree went 0.22 → 0.31 → 0.44 → 0.61 across six weekly refreshes. Each model still "worked" (the standalone dashboards were green the whole time). Nobody graphs the cross-model matrix, so nobody watched the ensemble turn into one model with five inputs. If you come from ensemble methods, agreement between models reads as confirmation. In a self-retraining loop, that agreement is the failure signature. Detection is direct. Keep a matrix of shape (T, N) — the last T bars of signals, one column per model. Pearson correlation across columns gives C, N×N. Two numbers summarize it: the mean off-diagonal and the largest eigenvalue λ1. Under near-independence, sampling noise alone puts individual off-diagonals around ±1/√T. At T=500 bars that's ±0.045, so a threshold of 0.05 pages you constantly for nothing. λ1 behaves differently: for a noise-only matrix it sits near (1+√(N/T))², the Marchenko-Pastur edge (all the random matrix theory this needs fits on one line). N=5, T=500 gives an edge near 1.21. At the peak of our incident, λ1 hit 3.4: most of the signal variance lived in a single direction. Five models. One opinion. There's a subtlety in how you average those off-diagonals. Raw correlations are bounded at ±1 and skewed under noise, so a plain mean drifts with window size, and a fixed threshold means different things at different T. Fisher z averages the arctanh of each pairwise correlation and maps the result back through tanh — one line of code, and thresholds become portable across windows. A second subtlety, less obvious: Pearson on bounded outputs lies. Two models emitting probabilities that saturate near 1.0 in quiet regimes have compressed variance, and correlation on compressed variance invents structure. Standardize within the window, or rank-transform and use Spearman. Spearman costs a sort per window — nothing at N=5, a real cost at N=500. import numpy as np
