i stopped trying to finish everything and started giving myself 10 minutes [Story] two years ago i started a master's degree while working full time and raising two teenagers on my own there were plenty of nights when i'd sit at the kitchen table, stare at a blank screen, and seriously consider quitting. i'd tell myself i was too tired, too old for this, and that maybe it wasn't even worth it. one night i made a deal with myself: ten minutes i didn't have to finish the assignment or study for two hours. i just had to work for ten minutes, and then i could stop. so i set a timer and started typing. when it went off, i kept going. turns out starting was usually harder than the actual work

Central Limit Theorem, in one smart flow: Raw data ↓ Random samples ↓ Sample means ↓ Repeat many times ↓ Means form an approximately normal distribution Why it matters: Even non-normal data can support reliable statistical inference when the sample size is large enough. #AI

How do you learn the unwritten parts of having a career? I’m in my 30s and realizing I’ve approached most of my career in survival mode: get a job, learn the tasks, do well enough, move up, earn a bit more, repeat. I've always focused on not losing the job, and in each job I've been in a state of anxiety about not losing it and needed positive feedback or validation that I was doing ok. I care about the work I do. I got pretty good at learning the actual work, but I don’t think I ever really learned the career side of work — things like understanding how organizations function, what managers need from you, how to build relationships, how to understand priorities, how to think ahead, and how to operate strategically rather than just complete your own tasks.
