Even if labs reach AGI within the next 2–3 years, the problem does not disappear. The model will still need to keep learning as science, markets, technology, and the world change daily. If keeping that intelligence current still requires massive retraining runs, then the massive cost of training will keep showing up in their earnings reports like a perpetual machine. Labs could end up spending tens of billions again and again just to keep their models relevant until a genius figured out a way of self-learning AI.
