Are bots with their own wallets basically becoming users at this point? I’ve been thinking about how bots in online communities are starting to look less like the traditional Discord bot that responds to commands and more like independent participants in the system. Most community bots I’m used to are pretty simple. They moderate, assign roles, post alerts or pull information from somewhere else. Even when they connect to something onchain, they usually still feel like an interface sitting between the user and another service. Giving a bot its own wallet changes that dynamic quite a bit though. I started thinking about this while testing some of the bot functionality on Towns. Bots there can have their own wallets and permissions, which means they can interact onchain rather than just displaying onchain information inside a chat. They can also have specific permissions within the community instead of automatically getting access to everything. That opens up some interesting possibilities. A community bot could handle rewards, accept payments for something it provides, react to certain onchain events or perform specific actions members request. You could have multiple bots doing completely different things, each with its own wallet and limited capabilities. At that point I’m not sure “bot” is even the best mental model anymore. You basically have an entity with an identity, wallet, permissions and the ability to perform actions, except software is controlling it instead of a person.
