Of course they used a white baby for this article "NYT: Are Babies Conscious?"

A close-up photo of a fair-skinned, blue-eyed baby with light blonde hair accompanies a New York Times Science article titled "Are Babies Conscious?" dated Oct. 5, 2026, with the caption "Baby brains: Researchers are debating whether newborns are conscious." The image choice illustrates the poster's critique that the article features a white baby to represent the topic of infant consciousness.

this is pretty amazing discovery AI agents just found two room temperature magnetic semiconductor candidates A team of Claude Opus 5.5 agents designed one entirely new material and rediscovered another made in 1999 that could enable next generation spintronic memory,

The image shows a blog post titled "Two Room-Temperature Antiferromagnetic Semiconductor Candidates" by Geby Jaff, dated 10/04/2026, featuring an illustration of two bar magnets with magnetic field lines and a "VALS" logo. It relates to the post by announcing that AI agents (Claude Opus 5.5) discovered two magnetic semiconductor candidates for next-generation spintronic computer memory, with one being a newly designed compound and the other a rediscovered material from 1999.

ELI5: Why do lightbulbs emit a buzzing noise before dying? I noticed in my house I can tell a lightbulb is about to die when there's a loud buzzing noise. It'll work fine when I turn it on but emit a loud noise, then when I turn the lights on and off it'll die. Also, why do they work just fine until I close the light then open it again? if its dead wouldnt it just... die? Why?

In 1986 NASA put the odds of losing a space shuttle at 1 in 100,000. Its own engineers said 1 in 100. Then it launched seven people on the coldest morning in the program's history. One of them was a schoolteacher, Christa McAuliffe. The night before, the engineers who built the
