In one of the least surprising but most deserved @NobelPrize awards in recent history - many congratulations to @KarlDeisseroth , and to his co-laureates Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel. This year it’s all optogenetics

Owen nails it here because we have turned science into a religion This doesn't mean any of it is fake but the entire point of science is that we can all question it

Comparing major physics engines on robot tasks, we found stark differences in how Newton, native MuJoCo and Genesis handle deformable objects. We compared behavior and forces with matched geometry across increasingly complex scenarios.

A tropical disturbance has been developing over the Bay of Campeche for the last few days. This area now has a high chance of development this week as it moves toward the north. It is too early to speculate of intensity or location, but conditions are only marginally favorable.

Still enjoying your Black-Eyed Susans? Good news! The season's first freeze is arriving later than it used to. Data from 1996-2025 shows that a September freeze is becoming rare with 83% now happening in October. #NEwx #IAwx

Tropical update discussion: 10/5/26: tropical storm likely to form in gulf- worst impacts stay west of Tampa Bay. But we will get heavy rain, localized flooding, and some gusty winds in rain bands. #hurricane #tropics #weather #tampabay #isaias

A little late, but very happy to announce that our work on building and evaluating tokenizers for neural (spiking) data, led by @fededagos , Alex Gilbert, and Susi Keller as a joint collaboration between @metamorphiclabs and @uni_tue , has been accepted as an Oral at Neurips

The title page of an academic paper titled "Evaluating Neural Data Tokenizers: A Framework for Assessing Learned Representations of Spiking Activity," with an abstract discussing foundation models of brain activity and transformer-based tokenization.

Lifeforms creating polymers that are hard to biodegrade, resulting in layers meters thick, covering vast swaths of land. Sounds familiar? This was trees after they started making lignin-rich wood around 380 million years ago. Eventually fungi evolved the ability to break lignin

@ArthurB Β· 2026-10-05T17:33:15+00:00

This is why we have oil and call iirc, it needed to accumulate for a long time before something could break it down. If organisms could break down lignin right away, giant reserves wouldn't have built up.
