· 2026-10-05T17:30:13.610000+00:00Someone talk me out of going long on ARM... ARM processors have been steadily gaining on traditional x86 processors in terms of computer power for years now. They do so while being much more power efficient. ARM processors are in all your phones for that reason. They're powerful while requiring much less energy than x86. Even Apple has even gone all in on ARM chips in their flagship laptops (and have been for a while now) to great success. As time moves on, I expect the happy between ARM and x86 to only get smaller with ARM eventually overtaking x86. Now, obviously this is a very long term view as businesses and institutions aren't changing from x86 to ARM anytime soon. Industry and gaming are two areas where ARM is going to struggle to break into and that's a huge use case for processors. Where it gets interesting is the improvements/development on translation layers that allow ARM chips to work in an x86 environment. We're seeing it right now on the gaming space where Valve is getting steam (and steam games) to run on ARM processors via translation layers. If that happens, you'll see an explosion of ARM in the gaming space. Even still, without expansion into gaming and industry, ARM is still the go to choice going forward for handheld devices and laptops. Biggest issue I see is they don't actually MAKE the processors themselves
