No consumer debt, maxed 401k, HSAs and IRAs… all while making 120k a year or less. Now at 30/31, we’re making 50% more and are just spinning our wheels. We only save to the 401k match, but are over spending our income every single month. Taking 401k loans, withdrawing Roth IRA contributions, using credit cards… and we’re tired of it. I don’t know where we got lost, but are tired of feeling like every month is a financial disaster. At this point, we still have around 300k in retirement savings (which should be more but I have done some extremely stupid stuff with our IRA and HSA savings). Our home has around 100k in equity. The only debt outside of the mortgage is a $12,500 401k loan and we want to aggressively pay it off. Our mortgage is only 25% of monthly take home at $2,500 a month and there’s no other debt. We’re just tired and need encouragement and advice. How can we fix this?
