Why do muscle fibres shrink with age? Not because myofibrils get smaller — because there are fewer of them. We followed this from whole-muscle down to individual myofibrils, in humans and mice, across ageing and disuse. Tweetorial below Open Access here: physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1113/JP …

**Caption:** A graphical abstract from *The Journal of Physiology* comparing young versus aged/disused muscle in mice and humans across three hierarchical levels—macroscopic (showing loss of muscle mass/volume), microscopic (showing lower cross-sectional area of muscle fibres), and ultrastructural (showing decreased number of myofibrils per muscle fibre).

**Relation to the post:** The figure visually supports the tweetorial's central finding that age- and disuse-related muscle atrophy is driven not by smaller myofibrils, but by a loss in their number per fibre, as revealed by this multi-level (whole-muscle → fibre → myofibril) comparison across species.

This morning isn't one I feel like being on X. More health problems have come up. I hope for others a good day. And. Pray for answers and relief love to my friends here.
