.How can I support my bf My boyfriend is 33 and has been trading for a while. He recently lost around $60k. The difficult part is that it seems like a cycle. He can have a really good week where he makes a lot of money, and then there will be a day where he loses everything he made, sometimes even more. Financially, he does have a good-paying job, so he isn’t completely dependent on trading or in immediate financial trouble. But I’m much more worried about the effect this is having on him mentally and his overall lifestyle. Lately, he mostly just trades and plays video games. I’ve also noticed him gaining weight and becoming less active. I don’t know how he’s actually doing mentally because he doesn’t talk about it much(used to cry in initial days), and I don’t want to constantly pressure him. I’m his boyfriend, and I try to support him in the ways I know how. I cook him good food, watch his shows with him, and try to make things comfortable for him. I’m not a very outgoing person myself, so I don’t really push him to go out or do a lot of activities. But I’m starting to wonder if I’m actually helping him or unintentionally enabling this lifestyle. I know he’s 33 and ultimately has to make his own decisions. I can’t control whether he trades or what he does with his money. I just don’t want to sit back and watch him become increasingly isolated and unhealthy. For people who have dealt with a partner or family member who trades heavily, especially after a major loss, what actually helped? Should I encourage him to take a break from trading? Encourage more exercise/social activities? Try to talk to him about how he’s doing mentally? Or is it better to give him space unless he asks for help? I’m not looking to judge him. I genuinely want to know what I can do as his partner without making things worse.
