Coinbase required a notarized hold-harmless release—my $2,399 is still restricted Coinbase restricted my account over “suspicion of fraudulent activity” and is currently preventing me from accessing approximately $2,399.27. On September 3, Coinbase Support told me that, to proceed, I was required to draft and notarize a Hold Harmless Letter. Their email specifically said the document would confirm my ownership and “release Coinbase from liability for any claims or disputes related to the account’s activity or verification process.” They required the letter to contain an indemnification clause protecting Coinbase, its affiliates, and employees from claims, disputes, and damages. I had the document notarized on September 4 and submitted it exactly as instructed. I completed this extraordinary requirement because Coinbase made it a condition of resolving the restriction and restoring access to my funds. Despite fully complying, my account remains restricted and I still cannot access my money. I have repeatedly contacted support and have now submitted a formal complaint. Coinbase acknowledged the complaint but says it may take up to 45 business days to respond. Requiring a customer to sign and notarize a broad liability release just to continue an account-verification process is disturbing enough. Continuing to withhold the customer’s funds after they comply is unacceptable. I need a Coinbase Support specialist to review this immediately, remove the restriction, and release my funds.
