What belongs beside a tick count in a crypto trade journal? If I read "10 ticks from entry" in an old trade note, I'd want to know the tick size at the time. A tick is the smallest permitted price increment, so I'd record its size alongside the exchange, full contract name and trade date. In an August 31, 2026 notice, BYDFi announced that it would change the tick size for its SOLUSDT perpetual contract from 0.001 to 0.01 USDT on September 1. Ten ticks correspond to a price gap of 0.01 USDT under the old specification and 0.10 USDT under the announced specification. I'd keep both the original tick count and its price gap in the journal. Before reusing that setup, I'd check the contract's tick size again and recalculate the count for the price gap I wanted. In this example, keeping a 0.01 USDT gap would require one tick under the announced specification. I'd save the updated settings in a new note and leave the original journal entry as it was.
