Russia's state-owned bank just said it'll take Bitcoin as loan collateral. Should this make the West nervous? Sberbank, Russia's largest bank and majority-owned by the Russian government, is planning to accept Bitcoin, Ether, and Tether as collateral for loans. A deputy chairman confirmed it in an interview ahead of the Eastern Economic Forum, framing it as the next step after the bank already issued its first crypto-backed loan back in December to a mining company. This lands on the same week Russia's new crypto law took effect, September 1, which lets the central bank admit crypto to regulated trading while capping ordinary retail investors at about $3,700 per broker. So the state is squeezing small speculators and simultaneously wiring crypto into the collateral base of its biggest, government-controlled bank.
