Genuine question for Bitcoin holders: do you actually view Bitcoin as a currency? I’ve noticed that in a lot of Bitcoin discussions, people seem to talk about BTC much more like a digital gold / store of value than an actual currency. Bitcoin was originally designed as peer-to-peer electronic cash, so I’m curious how people here personally view it. If you hold Bitcoin, is your thinking more: Currency: something you ultimately intend to spend and transact in? Digital gold: something you primarily want to hold as a scarce store of value? Investment: essentially an asset you expect to appreciate and may eventually sell for fiat? Or genuinely a mixture of all three? The thing I find interesting is that people don’t generally hoard USD, GBP or EUR because they expect them to massively appreciate. We earn them, spend them and keep enough around for future expenses. Whereas with Bitcoin, the common mentality seems to be Doesn’t that make the way most people use Bitcoin today fundamentally different from how we use conventional currencies? Interested to hear how holders of BTC themselves see it — particularly if you see BTC as rather than simply a scarce asset.
