Over the past two years, hardware wallets, decentralized wallets, and DeFi have either suffered data leaks or been hacked. It feels like decentralization is just a concept or a gimmick, with security levels not much higher than those of CEX.

Hardware wallet Trezor experienced a data breach through shipping partner ShipMonk, exposing sensitive personal information of over 13,689 customers (including 11,742 full names, phone numbers, emails, and addresses, plus 1,947 with city/postal codes) who placed orders between May 10 and August 8, 2026. The accompanying post uses this breach to highlight how even hardware wallets—often touted as the most secure crypto storage option—remain susceptible to security failures, reinforcing the skepticism that decentralization doesn't necessarily mean better protection than centralized exchanges.
