My two cents about the Coldcard incident The Coldcard incident is probably one of the biggest reminders we've had that hardware wallets aren't "trustless" just because they're offline. Most discussions about hardware wallets focus on secure elements, air gaps, anti-tamper features, etc. But none of that matters if the seed itself wasn't generated with enough unpredictable entropy. If the randomness is flawed, everything built on top of it inherits that weakness. That's what stood out to me about the incident. The attack wasn't about breaking Bitcoin's cryptography, it was about reducing the search space during seed generation. Once that happens, even a perfectly valid 24-word seed isn't providing the security people think it is.
