How to check if your Coldcard seed came from the affected firmware If you created a seed on a Coldcard Mk3 running firmware 4.0.1 through 4.1.9, it used software RNG instead of hardware RNG. Entropy dropped to about 40 bits. An attacker can reconstruct private keys offline without touching the device. Mk4, Mk5, and Q before 5.6.0 (Q before 1.5.0Q) are also affected, though at around 72 bits the entropy is far harder to crack. No command on the device tells you what firmware your seed was created on. You have to remember or check your purchase date. Coinkite's own advisory on the Mk3 seed generation warning says seeds created with 50+ dice rolls are not at risk from this bug alone.
