Accept Bitcoin on @BtcpayServer with Blink — now with non-custodial accounts. Connect with just your Blink lightning address, keep custody of your funds, and skip the technical hassle. See it work in under 5 minutes (demo by @_pretyflaco ) [Spoken audio]: Hello, I want to show you how to accept Bitcoin lighting payments on your website or point of sale using BTC pay server and blink with no lightning node to run and no servers to babysit. And there's something new, an update of the blink plugin that now works with blinks new non custodial accounts so you can stay in control of your funds. And in this short video, I want to show you how to set that up. So here is the idea, BTC Pay server is free open source payment software. Normally to take lighting payments, you'd run your own lighting node, which is a barrier and some work. The blink plugin basically skips all that. You connect your blink account and payments land straight in your blink wallet. Now there are two ways to connect. If you have one of Blink's custodial accounts, the old one's Blink has been known for. You generate an API key and put it into a connection string in BTC Pay server. But if you have one of Blink's new non-custodial accounts, where only you hold the keys, you just click and connect with your Blink Lightning address. You can see the connection string here. You fill in your username with your ad-link.sv lightning address and start receiving payments. No API key needed and that's the update I want to demo today. This is live here in the BitCPA plugin registry. It was first released a little over two and a half years ago back in December 2023 by developer Mr. Cooks and as you can see there's already the 1.1.0 version out there which supports non-casodial blink accounts. The plugin started as a community project. It was funded by a community by a bounty and built in the open. It has a five-star reviews. Some of the BTC Pay maintainers have commented and left reviews here. So this isn't the beta, it's live, and merchants are using it in production to receive Bitcoin payments every day. And here, that's me in January 2024 at the Adopting Bitcoin Conference in Cape Town where I gave a workshop when the Blink plugin for BTC Pay was very fresh. You can see some benefits listed here, instant inbound lighting liquidity, no channel management, no need to worry about backups, and you get notified of the received payments in the Blink app. All of that holds today as well with the non-custodial accounts, plus we're adding self-custody to the benefits, which is actually quite amazing. Yeah, this plugin has come a long way since and today it's easier than ever. All right, so let's actually do it. This is my BTC Pay server instance, a public instance with registrations open at BTC Pay server, BTCPay.idesalikeflames.org and it has the Blink plugin installed and running version 1.1.0.0. So that's all set up. Let's have a look at the settings here. Yeah, how how to set that up. So we go to change connection. And you can see here, that's the place where you have to enter the connection string. As you can see, yeah, I've already put in mine with my lightning address but you can also scroll down to blink account set up and you get the instructions here so for non-custodial accounts you just copy this string here you go up paste it in there and you replace your name the placeholder with your lightning address minus 21 at blink.sv you click test connection, the connection is successful, and then you have to scroll down to the bottom and save so the settings are saved. Okay, now let's do a test payment to see it work. We'll use the, we'll use a point of sale here that I set up, demo, just a keypad, I will click on view and then here I will generate an invoice for 210 sats and click charge and it should generate the invoice from my lightning address. It did copy the invoice. I'll use my IB browser extension to pay it, paste the invoice, click continue, pay now and let's see if it works. Yay, we see the confetti, the payment is settled. And yeah, so this payments went straight into my non custodial link account to which only I hold the keys. And it was pretty easy to set up. So this was a real lightning payment with no note, no API key and no custodian holding my money. And yeah, it's pretty cool. Yeah, try it out and thanks for watching.
