The Bitcoin network is under attack. All one has to do is follow the money to see how. The only way to mitigate it is for tens of thousands of individuals to run nodes with software prioritizing nothing but immutable money. It's how Bitcoin stays decentralized and incorruptible. [Spoken audio]: Bitcoin was built as a decentralized peer-to-peer electronic cash system intended to operate entirely outside the reach of Silicon Valley and corporate boards. Outside developers are now clogging the base layer with non-Bitcoin assets like NFTs and stablecoins, moving the network away from its original transactional focus. This influx was enabled by specific intentional protocol changes to the underlying code, most notably through the taproot upgrade. The public baseline for these upgrades is that they are managed by independent volunteers, acting as neutral guardians of the open source protocol. In reality, many core maintainers are paid through grants provided by venture capital firms and crypto corporations that hold specific profit motives tied to these code changes. When the individuals responsible for an immutable network are financially incentivized by VCs, the evolution of the code shifts to reflect those corporate interests. The origin of this venture interest dates to early 2013 at a private retreat in Tucson. There, Wences Kassaris, often called Bitcoin's Patient Zero, pitched the network's potential to a room of elite tech and finance leaders. The attendees included LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman, David Marcus of PayPal, and Marc Andreessen. During this meeting, a series of infrastructure companies emerged, including Blockstream, Zapobank, and LightSpark. These new entities quickly raised hundreds of millions of dollars in venture capital, establishing a permanent financial foothold within the ecosystem. These same players eventually transitioned into state-level financial planning, participating in the 2020 Treasury Department Crypto Summit to discuss the role of stablecoins. The 2013 retreat initiated a process that integrated venture capital into the core of Bitcoin's infrastructure, beginning the network's transition toward corporate financial capture. This pipeline uses intermediary funding vehicles like Brink and local host research to pay Bitcoin Core maintainers using venture capital dollars. Blockstream, for instance, has a long-standing corporate objective to implement simplicity, a smart contract protocol supporting non-Bitcoin assets on the main network. For simplicity to function on the base layer, the network first required the technical foundations provided by the taproot upgrade. The core developers who designed and implemented taproot were funded by Blockstream during the time the code was being pushed through. This suggests the evolution of Bitcoin's code is being guided by the product roadmaps of the developers' corporate employers, rather than the singular health of the network. A specific case of this influence emerged during the controversy over the Ordinals bug, which allowed non-Bitcoin assets to flood the network. In 2023, Core maintainer Marco Falk merged a change to the protocol's documentation regarding data carrier sizes just before he stepped down from his role. Other maintainers later cited Falk's documentation change as the specific justification for rejecting a bug fix that would have stopped the ordinals exploit. At the time this documentation change was made, Falk was being fully funded by grants from OKX and Paradigm. Both OKX and Paradigm were invested in the very NFT marketplaces that profited from the bug fix being rejected. Here, venture capital funding incentivized a maintainer to protect corporate profit at the expense of the network's original design. The corporate effort to co-opt the base layer is currently accelerating. Startups like Alpen Labs and Lightspark are building the infrastructure necessary to bring stable coins directly onto the Bitcoin base layer. If these entities succeed, Bitcoin loses its immutability and becomes a standard financial rail controlled by corporate interests. There is a check on this system. While VCs can pay developers to write new code, they cannot force the network to run it. The ultimate countermeasure is for tens of thousands of individuals to run their own nodes using software that prioritizes Bitcoin strictly as immutable money. Building this grassroots firewall of nodes is the only way to sever the web of corporate capture and protect the network.

Every token on the Solana network right now is simply minted into existence via a cheap smart contract call. But what if the hardest money on solana wasn’t just printed like the rest? what if it actually had to be mined instead? That is the exact premise of @promethium_work ,
