Jeff Yan: I have no interest in imitation; I'm only obsessed with things that go from 0 to 1. On July 9, 2026, Hyperliquid co-founder Jeff Yan @chameleon_jeff stated in an interview on the VALR podcast that the team is working hard to build mechanisms that mostly don't exist [Spoken audio]: I think if you just like micro optimize these things, even if you care about the metrics that the right thing to do is to just like keep finding zero to one. So apart from let's say volume liquidity, what are some of the metrics that you look at like on a daily basis to kind of look at the evolution of the hyper liquid ecosystem? I think what we're trying to build is like mostly things that don't exist. I think you'll notice that whenever hyper look at just something it's often like even if it's based on previous ideas, it's at least some like relatively novel take on it. that's like a we think it's like a zero to one improvement because we think if 10 people have already done this thing then maybe hyperbole should do it to kind of at least give users sort of feature parity but it's not that exciting and it wouldn't be something we would kind of like devote our like all of our mind to for example hip3 was one example where I think those are the first sort of permissionless deployment structure is just like this concept didn't exist before and it really is this I think valor will probably also at some point as you scale plug into more you know deploy your markets as well and I think it's like a really interesting synergy between all the different participants, the protocol, the deployer, the interfaces, the exchanges. So that's one example where it's like, when you think of what the next thing that needs to be built is, it can't really be informed by metrics if it doesn't exist already. And that's kind of like what I really obsess. But the metrics, it does ultimately reflect the metrics. So if you just look at like volume trailing volume, like Marcus, like sort of like percentage of total perp's volume, percentage of volume on a specific asset, percentage of volume, spot percentage of belief comparisons, etc. These are things that all kind of downstream benefit. I think if you just micro-optimize these things, even if you care about the metrics, the right thing to do is to just keep finding zero to one.
