As we continued our conversation, Jamil couldn't help but wonder if we are recreating the banking system as we know it today Although he was asking about staked ETH primarily, I told him I thought the real Trojan horse is stablecoins What's your take? Is crypto now banking 2.0? [Spoken audio]: I'm just wondering if we're if we're recreating banking, you know, through staking, you know, if for example, like if BlackRock stakes a huge amount of ETH, is ETH still decentralized? I mean, just famously, Tom Lee from Bitminer hit 5%, right? That was one of his overarching goals. we want to get 5% of the supply. I don't know if staking is necessarily the threat. I mean, it poses the challenges of being on a single provider, single custodian, all those challenges notwithstanding to your question about whether or not we're recreating the banking system, I would 100% say yes. And I would actually say the Trojan horse is through stable coins. Because a few things that people who haven't been in the weeds on, I had a conversation about this just last week at Consensus because we're just allowing a new form of rehypothecation where very famously the way the traditional finance system works, they take in a deposit at the bank, they can effectively lend out 90% of it and at no point does any given bank have all the money that it's supposed to have on its balance sheet for its depositors. leveraging that, right? This has happened since the Glass-Steagall Act was torn down. And now what we're seeing is there's a rush into the stablecoin business and being an issuer where you actually get to mint the tokens because, again, the banks have had their way with the what's about to happen with the markup for the Clarity Act where they want to ensure that just hanging on to stablecoins does not earn you passive yield. And because the banks effectively are earning the risk-free rate of holding the treasuries, let's call it 3.5% or something like that, and they pay depositors like you and me, Jamil, nothing. I think my money market pays 0.1% or something crazy, maybe 0.25%. And so they made up this whole boogeyman of capital flight and deposits going to leave our banks and it's going to send the banks crashing down. Meanwhile, they know that treasuries are backing stablecoins. The issuers then all of a sudden, they used to have to have 100% in cash for whatever they were putting out into the stablecoin circulation. They needed to have 100% of that backed up, even if they held the treasuries. Then there was a big, I don't know if it was SEC or CFTC, I forget which one it was, but basically they just wrote it down to where you only need 2%. So now you can kind of leverage stablecoins. Oh, well, it's backed by treasuries. I'm going to mint a bunch of stable coins and then I was having that conversation and they're saying well if we have the stable coins then we can lend those out and it's like okay well now we're getting into this rehypothecation game again where you're lending out money that you basically don't have and to me that is incredibly scary because we've already seen you know Jamil you and I remember what the great recession was like you remember when when when Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers and everything else came crashing down. And that was a blip on the radar compared to how leverage the system is now in 2026. So I find that that alarming. But I mean, to get back to your question about ETH, I don't think it's as big a problem, unless you're looping. So for people who don't know what that is, this is when you're staking ether to protect the network and earn that yield, which is quite small, it's roughly 3% or a bit less. But what has one of the new novel mechanisms is liquid staking. So you can stake your ETH and then you mint these liquid staking tokens and then you have those to go deploy and defy or use whatever in the market. And so, you know, it creates capital efficiency. But what happens sometimes is people will take that liquid staking token and they swap it out for more ETH and then they go stake it and then they get more liquid staking tokens. And so they, this is what's called looping to where now they may be getting out over their skis in terms of the amount of leverage that they're taking by getting this additional liquid staking token, converting it to ETH, restaking, and so on and so forth. So I think that's probably the bigger challenge. The good thing is, I mean, maybe not good, just the right qualifier, but what we've seen is that big tradfied doesn't care about this. Like they're just fine with just, you know what, I'm just going to stake it. I don't want to take any additional risk because we also thought that DeFi or decentralized fanatics would grow, but it really hasn't grown in a meaningful way. They just seem very content to, I'm just going to stake it. I'm just going to earn my little bit of yield, which is the magic word for Treadfy. And they're okay with that. So again, those are still going to pose centralization challenges in the long run.

Amazing to see the ClawBank AI Agents integrating with the XRP Ledger by means of the Ripple AI Kit and x402!

AI visual note: The image contains a text announcement titled "The Window to XRP" describing how Ripple launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit, making XRP Ledger a supported chain in the x402 protocol (via t54.ai contribution), and how ClawBank exposed its Base catalog of x402 services to XRPL agents who can now pay in XRP or RLUSD with no account or integration required. This directly supports the post about ClawBank AI Agents integrating with the XRP Ledger via Ripple's AI Kit and x402, as the image serves as the official announcement of that very integration.
