Multicoin was tiny when they backed @solana . It was their biggest bet @toly took Solana's earliest check from @multicoin ( @KyleSamani ) when they were a tiny fund. He says the small ones outworked everyone. "For the vast majority, the value they add is the money." [Spoken audio]: MultiCoin was a really small fund at the time, just starting, and we were their biggest check, and surprisingly, like, we didn't expect this to end up being kind of probably the most pivotal, hardworking, like, actual, you know, when the C's say they add value. The vast majority value they add is the money. That's like the important part. That's the reality, yeah. Yeah, and that's really important. You need the money to pay engineers to build your product. But they ended up, and I doubt any big VC can actually add more value beyond that, but if you get lucky with a small startup fund that really does make a big bet, they will, out of necessity, will put in all the hours doing everything they can. Was there someone like that? Yeah, that was multi-going for sure. How did they help you out in the beginning? So they were basically doing all the non-engineering work they could, like marketing, PR training, all of the stuff, connecting me with whatever company or whatever connection they could get to. I always hear about, or sometimes I hear about startup founders having this amazing experience with a VC firm where they literally did a bunch of groundwork for them. So I'm wondering for someone listening who's at the beginning of their founder journey, How can they spot or recognize that the fund will actually do something for them versus it just being lip service? I mean, I didn't have the opportunity to say no because we weren't raising out of the park money. So I was basically saying yes to every VC and the ones that were the highest impact were the small ones. So I would say don't underestimate the impact of a small fund.
