Is SWIFT the original DAO? Former @swiftcommunity CIO @TomZschach explains why he believes SWIFT was built to standardize trust decades before crypto came along. [Spoken audio]: I heard you say once that Swift is essentially the original DAO, that it kind of coined not the term, but sort of the aspect of it before crypto came along back in the 1970s. I use that when I speak at crypto conferences. Swift was kind of a standardized, secure way to connect payment systems that didn't talk to each other. And the governance is obviously different because it's done by people and obviously the technology has evolved along the way. But it really did exist to kind of standardize trust. Again, it doesn't hold value. It's it's all about moving trust. And there's two other things I like to just bring up within kind of the DeFi web three crowd. They'd say, and our goal is go out and get financial institutions and bring them on. And I'd go up to them and I'd say, how are you not on Swift? I'm not saying messaging is a future or everything has to be done on Swift. But if you actually want to get access to all of those financial institutions and banks, you can do it with one connection.
