Look, crypto's not totally innocent, because Bitcoin burns a lot of power. That part is real. But what you're doing every day online makes that look like nothing. For example, watching Netflix for one hour burns hundreds of times more energy than asking chat GBT a few questions. And all that time on TikTok and Instagram, while short form video is one of the most energy-hungry things on your phone. TikTok's yearly footprint alone is about the same as the entire country of Greece. Meanwhile, the data centers behind YouTube and the cloud use two to three times more electricity than Bitcoin, but somehow only crypto gets called an environmental disaster. And here's the part that ends the argument a bit. Bitcoin isn't even most of crypto. Almost every other coin runs on a system that barely uses any energy. Ethereum cut its usage by 99% years ago and the rest followed. So the whole crypto is destroying the planet thing is an old talking point about one coin and even that's been cleaning up. Look, crypto has some genuinely great use cases, but like any other technology, it comes with real downsides. So if you want to hit crypto, you can. Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons.
