New HMRC phishing scam targeting crypto holders People are getting texts claiming to be from “HMRC” with a link asking them to complete a declaration. The scary part? The fake form appears to ask for crypto wallet details, the value of your crypto and potentially your [Spoken audio]: Crypto, kidnappings and wrench attacks. This is what could happen if the current and latest phishing attempt were to be successful. It all starts with a text message from HM Revenue and Customs where they're saying that you need to declare your crypto currency, they would call it crypto assets, and it entices you to click on this link. The problem is this link not only is it a fake link but it's asking for your crypto wallets, list any additional exchanges So it's basically trying to get all the data as to where your crypto is held as well as how much roughly it's worth Were you to interact with this? You would give them your wallet addresses how much crypto you have and your government gateway login details now Why is that important? Your home address is there so with this latest phishing scam We are potentially going to see depending on who clicks on it something similar to what happened in France where we had I think it was a confirmed 41 kidnappings as of April 2026 just for the year. So I'm trying to get this message out as far and as wide as possible so that as many people will be able to just ignore the message let alone click the link or anything beyond that. The timing is impeccable with the crypto asset reporting framework currently within the scope of UK regulation. People are are potentially thinking that this is part of it? It's not.
