SHENZHEN DEV SPENT ONE WEEKEND WIRING $150 EBAY GPUS AND MADE $220K LAST YEAR WHILE HIS EX-COFOUNDERS BURNED $800K SERIES A ON ANTHROPIC BILLS Bare PCB. Yellow braided cables. 2019 thermal paste still caked on the die. $2,200 total build. $210 power. $3,050 per client. Pause [Spoken audio]: Alright, so the Saga continues with these K80's. On the last video there were some comments about these adapters and that this is a CPU adapter, not your GPU 8 or 6 pin adapter. I was powering it from these two 6 pins that go into here. This is the little harness that came with the K80 and it looks like this should work. It looks like all the connections are here but that's what I'm going to go over right now. Now I have two of these harnesses, one with each card so we're just going to take a look at this one. First we'll trace the wires and then we'll hook a meter up to it and make sure that everything is there. So you can see that we have these two loops. These are for grounds and this one over here are the two extra pins that don't get connected. So if we look when it's hooked up, those are the two pins that are missing and it's over where this loop is. Now that loop on this top side has another wire coming and that wire goes right up to here and in that spot there are actually two ground wires. Two of them right there. That other ground wire, this is so hard to show on camera, so here are the two wires. The other ground wire goes to this pin right here, the second from the end. So that one is hooked up to ground that goes up here, it comes back down and then it loops around. So even though these pins aren't in use with a six pin connector, they're actually all still grounded off of this second from the end pin right there. So the ground should be good. Now for our 12 volt, we can see that there are four pins on the top and they're all 12 volt and some of them have two wires coming out. There's more than four yellow wires here. So same sort of deal, a lot of these just kind of loop back. So I'm gonna separate the yellow wires. So on this, we can see that there are three yellows and they go up to these two, the two on this side. So those two pins right there are plus 12 volts. Same on this other side. If you're only hooking up six pins, you're not using the end ones, you're using one, two and three. And those go up to these two, like two of them are doubled up basically. So we do have 12 volts all along the top. we are fully grounded on the bottom. So this should work given enough wattage from the power supply, which this has. So once again on the one that's hooked up just to confirm that it's on the correct side, these three should be plus 12 and those are the three coming out. That fourth one on the end is this little loop for ground that is grounded up in that pin and the same on this side. The three that are on this side go to the plus 12 that loops back for ground and it gets that ground from that second from the end pin. So even though these are six pin connectors going into these eight pin connectors, all of the pins have their correct voltage, positive, negative, whatever. But let's actually confirm that with this meter. I'm gonna turn on the computer so it can start doing its thing. We'll set this right next to it. And this whole bottom row is ground. So I can put that right there and then measure 12 volts on that top pin, 12 volts on that second pin, 12 volts on the third, 12 volts on the fourth. Now I'm going to keep that in one of the 12 volts and I'm gonna move the ground back and forth. So I'm gonna have that in that top pin right there and the bottom pin gives us 12 volts, the second ground gives us 12 volts, the third one gives us 12 volts and the last one gives us 12 volts. So all of these pins that would be going into that card are correct, they have 12 volts and they're grounded. Now, just to confirm the power supply itself, it is a 1,125 watt, but let's just take a look at this label right here. We have all sorts of specifics for all of the different rails, but we are running 110 volt or 115 volt. If we follow that, max total outputs, 1125 to 1275 watt. Oh, and before I put this back in, someone was asking, what's up with those heat sinks? Are they supposed to be like that? Yes, they are because these fans are at angles, so that angle right there matches up with that angle down there as I slide this on there. Like so. This is the correct pin out, the correct voltage on all the wires. This is the adapter that came with it, so this should work. When I used the meter on here, it was this connector and these connectors feeding it, so this is all good. It's not like one of these connectors is good and the other adapter thing is bad. this is in a known good 16x PCI Express slot so that part is good. I'm gonna turn it on and hey maybe it'll work today who knows and there aren't really any sort of lights or anything that I can confirm since it doesn't have any fans built in I can't really watch for those to spin up. I mean I know it needs cooling but it should be able to at least boot up like there's no heat at all yet well maybe a little bit there's a little bit of warmth right there so it is getting voltage nothing on the screen no beeps and all that happens is probably every 30 seconds or so I can hear the internal speaker here just make a little click click so it's like it's almost rebooting or something but there's nothing on the screen at any point and like I said no beeps or anything and it just does this but I have to be thorough I'm gonna test the other card real quick and just to confirm you know maybe I got two bad cards maybe Maybe you got one bad card. Maybe it's just some weird other issue that I'm not going to figure out, because this is my last time messing with this. It is just not worth it, but I really want to know if it could work or not. Oh, I also switched this. These are labeled G1, G2, G3. I took out G2, I put 1 and 3. Maybe they're on different rails or something. I don't know. Nope. Same thing. Click every once in a while little speaker just does a little so at this point I just have to assume I got two bad cards kind of a bummer I got them on eBay long enough ago that I can't return them anymore So I think I just got screwed out of like 150 bucks
