I'm Dale Christie. I'm a Business Fellow and Blockchain Strategist with FedEx, and I'm a proud member of GBBC, and thank you all for coming today. I want to take you up to the International Space Station essentially. We go to 220 countries and territories. We go everywhere in the world. You can go, so do our competitors. And while each of these conversations are unique and interesting at the individual company level, by taking you up here, I want to show you what it looks like from our point of view. This is the central nervous system basically of the world of global commerce. And so at this level, you know, my brain kind of connects dots, but at this level, it's all going to have to come together. Yes, we can solve for something in DC. We can solve for something in some industry or some component of that. But at some point, from our point of view, when we've looked at these types of use cases, it needs to be both strategic and scalable. And so as I say here, commerce is global, trust is local, and we're going to keep coming back to the word trust a lot in this presentation because basically our entire systems have been built on essentially the lack of trust. We've been trying to over plan for things that we didn't have the ability to do digitally like we do at this point in time. So yes, that's what the current world looks like at that point. Here's what the current world looks like from a document point of view. Everybody every time, you know, the early days of somebody moving a tapestry across a river with a canoe created this proxy of trust, created somebody who's acted as a middleman between supply and demand. And as we continue to grow in the world, we've continued to just get that bigger and bigger. Now we're at a couple of dozen documents to move something around the world. And essentially every time somebody hands it off to somebody else, we have to stop and go, well, I know Sandra said she is who she is. she is, but hang on, let me just double check. And then I hand it over and hand it over and hand it over, and that continues literally around the world. And so we talked yesterday on the panel about what's the biggest challenge, and the word I used was fragmentation. These systems are so fragmented, they were never designed several thousand years ago to do what we're doing now. And now we are constrained, global commerce is constrained by all of these handoffs and all the fragmented kind of trust issues that we have. Again, documents were the best we had at the time, right? A proxy of trust with Clay Tablets and Papyrus and finally the paper. And now we've gotten this thing to the point where now it is the constraint. It is, the documents were actually not in the system, they were the workaround. We now, this room is now filled with people who understand the digital nature of where this is all going. And so, again, we believe the future of global supply chains is digital. We believe that that is a paperless future from that point of view. Trusted data will drive that. I am who I say I am becomes very powerful in terms of movement from that point of view. We think it needs an open foundational layer. It has to work for everyone. This is not a FedEx or UPS or DHL or big entity commercial. It has to be a commons approach. It has to work literally for a lone entrepreneur, and that includes everything from harmonized, interoperable, and open standards. Open is gotta be critical to this because some people can't afford to pay for the standards at this point in time, and we think that essentially needs to be a utility. It needs to be open for everyone from that point of view. And so, but again, the documents where they work around, in this case, we actually think that the future of global supply chains, trusted data is that future. That's really what we're talking about here. When I am who I say I am, and now person A is shipping to person B across a border, all that data can be managed accordingly. That's a trusted shipper. That's a trusted receiver. The product is known and identified and moved back and forth on some recurring basis. We know those customers. US Customs knows those customers. Others, EU or others, know those customers as well. Let's identify something that we can now clear at the speed of data. And no longer at the speed of, OK, well, let's hang on to it until it gets to a physical border. Let's double check all the documents. Let's do all those kinds of things. So while the future of global supply chains is digital, the trusted data is actually the supply chain in the future. It's trusted data that we're really talking about here. Now, again, with multiple thousands of data points about every shipment, literally in the world at this point, you know, 20 million, 18 or 20 million or something today for us, and then you can multiply that out at global commerce level. We don't think all 3000 or whatever those number are need to be on a blockchain need to be on some technology need to be on some database or clearinghouse or something like that. We believe that there's actually a handful of key authoritative facts that are going to be critical about this. And it's things like identity. I am who I say I am, custody, who has custody or ownership or clearance, there's a handful of other pieces about that. And so this is the area that we're exploring at this point in time is you don't have to put everything on some technology or some database or a blockchain or whatever the example might be, but if we can identify those things and we can say that Person A, the trusted shipper, asserted that this was, they are who they say they are, They've got the provenance, the pedigree, the origins of the product. And as it moves, if it has not changed, then let's create some kind of a notarization process. It has been notarized. Has it changed since Person A handed it? No, it hasn't. Keep it moving. Don't keep rechecking everything all the way around the world for millions and hundreds of millions and trillions of shipments from that point of view. And so, again, those items, I've got it narrowed down here to a half a dozen or so from that point of view. We don't think it's a ton. We think it's literally a handful. And so we're in the process of starting to explore that. We've talked about creating a cross industry working group to explore these things on a pro-competitive, pro-consumer basis. And we would certainly want, you know, U.S. customs and world customs and the the other standards entities and others ultimately to align on this. Basically what we have is we've got a dozen and a half or so standards entities that have grown up over 150 or so years and they're all excellent at what they've done. They've done the best they can possibly do to get us to this point. And yet most of them are industry focused. So you've got maritime, you've got customs, you've got air, you've got all those kinds of things. But I'm hoping that by bringing everybody up to that international space station view and say look this is what commerce really looks like. This is the central nervous system of the globe right now, how can we create a bridge from those standards entities to this level and not try to knock on every door all the way around the world to try to convince them of the inherent goodness of this? At this point, once we can bring it up to here, let's connect these dots and then let's boil these down to a handful of items in particular that actually work for that. And again, first step, again, start small, start focused, could be a specific transaction or a specific type of transaction. Again, how can we prove trust? Trusted data we believe is the future of global supply chains. And then little by little, you can take it from there and broaden slightly, slightly, slightly. Again, at that point, we are technology agnostic. Somebody can notarize that. We are members of the Hedera Council. That could be an example of that. But there are many other examples as well that could also notarize something. And again, if I've been given it to me by a trusted shipper and it has not changed, then let's assert that, let's prove that, let's keep it moving. If something has changed, we slow it down, we do things differently and go from there. You know, the internet reached a point with TCPIP that created essentially a common language. We think that's the moment right now for global commerce. We think that this is the kind of thing that for several thousand years in the rearview mirror has been paper and more paper and more paper and global and moving and moving in all these modes and everything else, but we really think that moving forward, the windshield is essentially digital and we think this common language that TCPIP provided for the internet is actually a great analogy for the future of global supply chains.
