The slides display "$87M Allocation" broken down into $36M for outreach and $25M for research/operations, followed by a critique of "Paid influencers" as the least accountable marketing, and sections titled "They control narratives" covering positive framing and anti-FUD tactics, plus a treasury inflow figure of "$815M ADA." A screenshot of a tweet from "YUTA-Cardano/CPA" then appears, discussing a price reduction on a Cardano proposal from $7.9M to $5.4M, before the video returns to the presenter continuing her analysis of the comparison. > > "There has been a lot of discussion around treasury spending, sell pressure, Cardano going to zero, and comparisons to Polkadot. So let's look at what actually happened to Polkadot, what Cardano can learn from it, and where I think people are getting it wrong [Spoken audio]: Sound the alarm. If you've been on KidanoX lately, then you've probably heard a lot of discussions around treasury spendings. People are saying that ADA is going to zero and there was a big argument about Kidano blindly following in Polkadot's footsteps. History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes. It's the catch-cry as people worry about the treasury being drained. So in this video, let's look at the facts of where Kidano is heading, as well as what we need to look out for in the future. I want to apologize in advance to everyone I'm going to throw under the bus in this video. Hi, I'm Linda and if you'd like to see more content like this, make sure to give me a follow or support me by staking to my Marlipool on Kidano. And remember that this is not financial advice. Always do your own research. Polkadot dumped its treasury. There's really no softer way to put this. Prior to June of 2023, Polkadot followed a mostly traditional Dow structure alongside a technical committee and a council. The council controlled the treasury, they suggested proposals and could also vet a malicious proposal. But the polka dot community found this method of voting somewhat slow and ponderous and it felt like it didn't really represent the needs of its dot holders. And they also argued that it felt like it had become way too centralized. So then come June of 2023, where they shifted to an open-guff model. But that removed nearly all safeguards and oversight. It put proposals squarely in the hands of dot holders. And boy oh boy did they run with it. The only limits were self-imposed, and the single biggest issue was that proposals could easily be voted in by a relatively small amount of dot. Approximately 7 to 15 million dot or around $40-80 million was enough. And so $87 million of the Treasury was sold in the first half of 2024. That's essentially the value of the entire 2026 Kidano NCL budget, gone in 6 months. But what's even more critical is that the Pocador Treasury only held $188 million worth of assets after those first 6 months, which essentially only gave them a 2 year runway. Now off that $87 million sold, $36 million went to outreach, which included marketing, events, business development, and community development. And that massive expenditure dwarfed research, operations, talent, and education, which they allocated $25 million to. When we look at the outreach budget of $36 million, they spent most of it on marketing – $21 million to be precise. Now the second half of 2024 fared a little better. They only dropped another $12 million on outreach. So they spent a total of $48 million on outreach in 2024 and a total treasury burn of $133 million. In 2025 they realized that they need to cut back and only spent a total of $70.6 million with only $17.2 million allocated to outreach. As of June 2026, there are no Treasury reports published to see exact newer spending amounts, but the dashboard shows that they've only got $41 million remaining in the Treasury. And after all of that, Polkadot is now ranking down in the 40s. So there is an argument to be made that all of this expensive marketing just doesn't work, which apparently also proves the point that we shouldn't fund marketing on Kidano either. But this isn't quite the full picture for multiple reasons. One of them is that Polkadot threw significant amounts of money into high-impact marketing, like having the Polkadot name on Lionel Messi's chest or an Indy and Nesca race. On face value, it seemed like a fantastic opportunity. The type of marketing that you need when you're about to enter into an explosive wool market and people are looking for just anything to buy. But Polkadot did it in bear market, when literally nobody cared and the market wasn't there. So I assume it never really translated to anything meaningful. They've also heavily invested in KOLs and fly by night paid influencers by KOL management groups are also great in a ball market. When you want maximum noise in a feeding frenzy, these are the go-to. So let's look at what this type of marketing does when it's done at the right time. Crypto.com signed a 10 year deal with the UFC. They renamed the Staples Arena to the Crypto.com Arena. They had Matt Damon telling us that Fortune favours the Brave. They had usable Crypto debit cards and sponsoring Formula One and FIFA World Cup events. They did this in 2021 at the start of an epic bull market and the token went ballistic and 15 X when the platform didn't even have that much to offer at the time other than being just another exchange. So Polkadot actually did what would have been incredible marketing, they just did it at the wrong time. They shot their shot after the train had already left the station and the next one was still a very long way away. Their KOL management teams also hunter delivered by a long shot. And it was a shame that this wasn't picked up earlier, because many of the posts that were pushed by them had a huge amount of impressions, but very little engagement. Which shows that it was either promoted to the wrong audience, or the KOLs just used cheap bots to pump their metrics. Bots aren't that expensive when you want to pump your metrics to fish for millions of dollars in treasury money. A member of the cadano community called Cooler Music actually put out a banger of an article, which I have linked below if you want to check it out yourself, but he accurately describes one of the biggest misconceptions that people have when they hear the word marketing and then lump all types of social marketing into the same pot. And I'll quote Cooler here because he describes it perfectly. So there are content creators and then there are paid influencers. Let's look at content creators first. Two different activities share this name, but they are very different. The first type of content creator marketing is partnering up with someone who has built a genuine trusted audience and co-creates real content with their audience. That is accountable, as long as you know what audience you're reaching and track what the audience does. The second type is paying someone to post on your behalf, because they have a large following. These are not the same, even though they share the same name. And then there are paid influences, where blockchains or projects pay for posts by the unit. And it's purely for reach. But this is also the most ephemeral and fraud-prone form of marketing in the industry. The effect stops the moment the payment stops, and it really converts to much, other than getting eyes on the product. Because they generally haven't built a deep trust with their audience, and the content often times comes across as just another shill. I'm pretty sure you know what I mean here. And that is what the skepticism is really about and it's 100% right. This end of the spectrum should not be defended in my opinion. So actual content creators fit somewhere in the middle of bringing buyers, builders, investors and partnerships into the ecosystem as well as just straight up renting attention. They often blend a bit of A and B together. They aren't always trying to sell things, and they're usually the ones that people turn to for news, opinions and positivity. Paid influencers generally have zero interest in what they're even talking about, and most of the time don't even write the posts or scripts themselves. The information generally does not stick, and does not really invoke any type of feeling in the viewer. They are purely there to get something out into the public, and don't really care where it ends up. Now, the one thing that content creators cannot do is provide that human element where deals are made and conversations are often locked in. So you do need a bit of a symbiotic nature between events and content creators. Content creators can prime audiences to recognize a brand before it gets to the event. And the event can then lock in those conversations when potential investors see, recognize and approach the booth. Content creators also help you marry your bags. They give you a reason to actually have conviction in your purchases because you can see the long-term value in the token. This is how people, including myself, have round-tripped ADA from 10 cents to 3 dollars and now back down to 15 cents again. Content creators also help control narratives. They can show a project in a positive light when other projects are falling apart or having issues. And they can help fight against misinformation and fat. So as you can see, there's a huge difference between content creators and paid influencers. But that's enough information on social marketing for now. It's just to show that while Polkadot did invest large numbers into it, the way they did it wasn't necessarily helpful. And if Kadana wants to invest in marketing, we have to do it the right way, at the right time. Let's talk about another point that is often brought up and that's sell pressure. So let's look at Polkadot. The majority of Polkadot's treasury withdrawals happened during the first half of 2024. If you look at the price of DOT during that time, it went up like most other blockchains at the time. If compared to ADA or Ethereum, it did not pump as high, which could be a sign that the treasury may have tempered the pump. But then you can also compare it to XRP, for example, which didn't pump at all during this period, but then went ballistic in the second half of 2024. So this shows that if buy pressure is there, then sell-offs can be absorbed and the price actually goes up. But we need to get people to actually want to buy it. Simply existing in a top 10 or top 20 just isn't enough. Now let's go back to comparing Cardano to Polkadot and see where they differ. So Cardano has a net change limit or a NCL. This is the maximum that the Treasury can spend in a 12 month period. The NCL must be voted upon by DREPs and cannot be exceeded. Polkadot just simply doesn't have that. And the current NCL on Kidano actually doesn't eat that much into the existing treasury. The treasury inflows of these last 12 months were 315 million ADA. The current NCL is set at 350 million ADA. Now it's also important to remember that the treasury inflows are designed to decrease over time and are meant to be offset by an increase in transaction volume. So let's look at the worst case scenario and the best case scenario. If we keep spending the same way but completely fail and all the millions that we spend don't translate to any growth for Cardano, then the Treasury would last us for about 7 years. But honestly, at that point we would have much bigger problems than the Treasury because running a stake pool wouldn't really be viable anymore, and Kedano would become massively centralized and vulnerable. Stake pools are the real backbone of Kedano, and since rewards decrease by design, people just simply won't be able to run a stake pool anymore, as they would lose money doing so. Now, let's look at the best case scenario. If we do everything right, an offset decrease through transaction volume, the treasury would last us for 33 years. And if we do even better, then we wouldn't have to worry about the treasury at all because it would just refill nicely. So by design, we need to invest into the ecosystem. We need to build depths, build the tech, build real-world applications, and of course, market it. We need the transactions. That's just a fact. Another difference is that on Kidano, you need a minimum amount of votes in order for a proposal to pass. Polkadot has this as well, but Kidano requires a much larger percentage of ADA voting power. Kadano also has an elected constitutional committee that ensures that each proposal is constitutionally correct before being enacted. Pocodot does not. Kadano has milestones on proposals that are submitted via Intersect, so payments are held and not get distributed to the teams unless they meet their KPIs. This also helps to spread out any cell pressure over a longer period of time, rather than every team getting their hands on their funds in one go and dumping it in one go. And if you don't submit via Intercept, Kadano Proposals require a significant deposit of 100,000 ADA to activate the proposal. And that alone cuts down on a lot of the proposals where people just go, oh well, I might as well just try it. Now Polkadot has made some changes and improvements to the way that proposals are submitted. But for the sake of the point, I'm comparing Kadano to what Polkadot was like when the most treasury damage was done. So Cadano is not like Polkadot, but there's still something to learn from this. I think we need to revise the way that proposals are voted into place by having actual subject matter experts either review or vote first on proposals. There are way too many D-Raps with significant amounts of voting power who just simply don't have the qualification or deep knowledge to vote on the majority of these proposals. I mean, when you look at a lot of the rationales, they often times just don't make a lot of sense. For example, one of Kodano's biggest DREP just changed his vote from a no to a yes on one of the IOG proposals because, oh well, the price went down, so I'm fine paying that dollar amount now because it's not as much anymore, but the treasury is nominated in ADA. So I'm not sure how much sense that makes, but that's just what it is at the moment. And I found another really great example where we fell into the same pitfall. One One KOL platform was paid roughly $2 million from the Polkadot Treasury. The same platform then requested and was funded by a catalyst on Kidano. They've received 300,000 ADA from three separate proposals. This was valued at around $210,000 at the time. So if we look up these proposals, they wrote 16 articles for basically 200,000 ADA and The third proposal was to utilize 12KOLs to write a total of 60 quote posts for Cardano Unexed to amplify announcements. The price tag for that one was 100,000 ADA, or to be exact 1,647 ADA per quote post. So let's look at what they actually achieved. Combined, they've got just under half a million impressions. And it might sound impressive, but I can tell you right now that most of us in the community who are consistently making Kodano posts have way higher views and engagement than most of these KOLs. So let's look at the two best performing posts, 200 likes and 100 likes. Each costs us over 1600 ADA. And that's just absolutely not worth it in my opinion. And yeah, sure, you can make the argument that we need to market outside of our bubble, But I can guarantee that a strong Kodano native account will reach just as many people outside of Kodano. If that content gets good engagement, it will naturally get pushed out of our bubble. I get bit coiners, people from XRP, Solana, Ethereum and so on commenting on my Kodano videos regularly. So the bigger point is, when we want to fund big KOL management companies, we really need to do our due diligence on them. who were paying, how much were paying, and what their metrics are. That KOL company was a waste of money, and most others are as well. Perkotot also made another mistake with another content creator, who many of us on Kidano are familiar with. And that's Laura Shin of Unchained. She received $460,000. And the problem with a lot of these big creators is that many of them still rely heavily on their metrics from the 2021 Bull Run. They look like they have significant numbers of subscribers, but those are mostly dormant now. But either way, those creators still command significant price tags to achieve results that are similar or even worse than what content creators on Kedano achieve. So just because somebody used to have a big name doesn't mean they deserve the price tag. When it comes to funding on Kedano, there are also more things that I think are important to look at. So let's talk about treasury funding and catalyst again. The way it works is if your proposal gets passed, you get an initial payout, usually for around 10% of your entire fund. Now especially in fund 13, there is a significant number of funded proposals by fairly influential people who did not follow through on any of their commitments. They just got the initial payout and never really delivered anything. They argued that they still intend to complete the proposals, but at the same time, they took away the chance from other teams to receive funding. So I don't think this is a good argument and it's not a fair one either. Some of our devs have also publicly admitted to applying for catalyst funding on proposals that weren't really needed, but tried it anyway because why not? So we really need to do our due diligence on proposals and the people who are asking for it. And again, I really think we need experts. We need audits, and I'm personally happy to spend a couple of thousand dollars to review certain proposals by professionals to see if it's actually worth it, and of course if the price tag is justifiable. Polkadot had open season, so fiscal responsibility is key. Not every DEF upgrade is required right now. Not every piece of tooling is necessary right now. Not every marketing proposal is immediately important or good. Some of them can wait 12 months for the next budget, or they're not necessary at all. But that doesn't mean that we start making populist cries, like no treasury funding until ADA reaches $3. It's been nearly 5 years since ADA hit $3. If we don't help move the chain forward, then there will be no narrative to help us get to $3 again. And even if there was, there would be nothing left. Kadana would become that ghost chain that the uninformed keep calling us. We need to be a bit more critical of some of these simple calls to action. They are often made by people high on emotion and low on experience. We should also question where some of their motivations may lie and certainly ignore those who try to attribute recent price movements to treasury selloffs, when they haven't even occurred yet. And the rest of the market is also in the toilet. This governance stuff carries a lot of nuance, it's never that simple. But I hope that this has helped China Light on some of the things that you may have been hearing. So, no. I don't think Kodano will follow Pocodot's footsteps. We've got way more safeguards in place, and marketing isn't the death of a chain if it's done right. Kodano is an incredible blockchain, and we have so much to look forward to. It makes me so excited to be part of this, and you should be too, so let's make this happen. Thank you so much for tuning in to this video, and I hope I'll see you in my next one.
