More throughput, with security [Spoken audio]: Hello everyone. Yeah, so this, what we'll talk about is related to the consensus for packets. But first, let me give a quick introduction myself. So my researcher on cryptography distributed systems and blockchain protocols, I'm a research fellow at IOR. And I had quite a diverse blockchain research experience for the past 10 years. That's a sort of look at proof of work and proof of useful work, a work on permissiveness consensus on transaction, congestion control, and lately on layer one scaling. And in fact, I'm meeting the Robert Leos research efforts for the past couple of years. So to give you a bit of context, this work package is about layer one scaling, meaning the Robert Leos and badass protocols. Leos is about high throughput, Petas is about fast settlement. And our goal as these are high-tech objects, our goal was to secure the deployment pathway and support engineering in a way and also provide security and performance improvements that can be implemented in the medium to shorter, shorter medium to short. Shane. So on the protocol improvement side, We have been doing work on optimizing the vote certificate design and by optimizing here I mean first that efficiency meaning small certificates and voting like network load and also higher security meaning that the voting scheme should be secure against stronger attackers. Now we have an improved understanding and we're in the process of writing a research paper that is to be finished by the by the end of the year and published by the end of the year and also let me highlight here that voting certificates are relevant for both lios and pedas in lios that is voting for block availability that you know a block of transaction is available to the whole network and for pedas voting is used for block boosting to increase the weight of some block in order to speed up settlement. So this work is really focusing on these two protocols. And I would also like to highlight here that our work is based on earlier work from my research. First, the mithril paper by Aguilos and Piros, and then the feta-comblee commit selection paper by Peter Aguilos and Alex. And what's nice now is that throughout the years like we're improving our understanding of things and then now we can take these two papers that it's add something new to the problem also come up with new ideas and come with a better voting certificates design overall. So I think that's a nice highlight of this work. Now the other things we worked here will have to do with performance and security modeling. So first, we did some work on informing, and by week, obviously, I'm not involved in all of these objects. This was a team effort, I think that's presenting for the team now. And there are also other people in the call that actually did work on some of these items that they didn't. So one of these items is work trying to inform parameter selection with high requirements. So, there we did the Markov model for block protection and certification and informed us about, for example, how often do we expect a block to be certified. And then we went to an even higher complexity model trying to do a constraint model on the resource uses of the Leos protocol. Trying to see, okay, if I set the parameters this way, being informed by the Markov model now. How would hardware users look? How many CPUs do I need to properly run this protocol and try to inform now the hardware requirements part for the protocol? Secondly, we looked at front-running attacks and membol fragmentation and the idea there was to try to understand better this type of attacks because with Leo's, we're inviting more load to the network in some sense, more throughput. So then we want to see, you know, do things get worse or how exactly things are gonna look regarding MVM programming attacks and member fragmentation. And finally, we did some work on understanding modeling and analysis. is first trying to understand or to increase our confidence on the block diffusion process, on the large block diffusion process, like in the LIOS protocol. So in that protocol, block diffusion is critical for consensus as well. And compared to what was happening before in in browse, now we have to deliver an object that is a message or a block, that's a lot bigger than what we did in browse, which required really careful analysis of what's happening in the network, modeling of possible attacks of the sort of modeling and also coming up with mitigation strategies for certain short comics. So that's ongoing work, trying to map to follow also the implementation process and trying to map the analysis we do on what's actually being implemented and you know increase our confidence on that part And secondly there was work on on former proofs in ECTA about the safety and the liveness of the protocol as well as a trace verifier So a trace verifier, you know, is a nice Program that you know given some implementation and given that this implementation creates a trace of what is the world is being what is the the program doing, the trace verifier can come up and check this trace. And tell you if this trace is conforming to the actual Leo specification. So it's a tool for implementers in some sense, helping implementers conform to the actual specification of the protocol. And, you know, these, these topics are quite, you know, what many things you can say. And in fact, these updates for these topics where have been resetted in the Leos monthly meetings and there's everyone who also have a look there for some extended discussion on all these topics. Okay. So having said that, for the second half of the year, there are some key deliverables ahead that we're working on. First, as I said, the voting certificates, this is paper with something we're probably gonna have by Q3. Secondly, the report on the unification of Leos and Peras and the possible synergies between the two protocols are something we haven't started with this month. And finally, this report about the timeliness of block diffusion in Leos. And as I said, this is quite an important report as it helps build increased confidence on the actual least implementation that's being done right now.
