This seems like a good place to ask for advice because I genuinely don’t know if I’m thinking big or if I’m just fucking delusional lmao.
I’m 21, bilingual, and I recently graduated trade school as a welder. Honestly, when I started, I just wanted something to do with my life and a career I could fall back on. I actually love welding, but now that I’m out here doing it full-time, the pay is booty cheeks for the amount of physical labor I’m doing. I’m busting my ass, hurting myself almost every day, driving an hour to work, spending almost $70 a week on gas, and dealing with a boss who talks to me like I’m stupid because I’m a girl. And for what? I’m not saying welding is a bad career, but I genuinely cannot see myself doing this shit long-term, especially when I know I have the potential to do so much more. AND no job pays enough for the labor. Every job expects 5+ years of experience to get the wage that was promised to me at first.
I’ve always been obsessed with making money. Not even in a materialistic way necessarily, but in a kind of way. I’m tired of checking my bank account and feeling annoyed because some random $20 charge from Apple or another bill comes out and now I’m out of money and i need to uber for 4 hours after a 10 hour shift to buy cat food. I want financial freedom. I want to be able to help my family, invest in things, travel, start businesses, and live comfortably without feeling like every dollar I make is already spoken for before I even get it.
Everyone in my family is a business owner, and they all tell me they wish they would’ve started earlier. They came here from another country and had to spend years building a life from nothing, so I understand why they couldn’t just take those risks when they were younger. But I keep thinking that I’m 21. If there’s ever a time for me to take chances, learn, fail, and figure shit out, isn’t it now?
I have so many business ideas that I genuinely believe could make money, but I don’t have the time, capital, or freedom to actually put them into motion. I’m spending most of my week working for someone else, and by the time I get home, I’m exhausted. I feel like I’m working to maintain my current life instead of actually building the life I want.
I’m considering going back into sales because that’s where a lot of my previous experience is, and I’m looking for a remote position that would give me more time and flexibility to work on myself and my own ideas. My girlfriend currently works from home, and she literally gets to sit at home, play video games between tasks, work around six hours a day, and make more money than I do. Meanwhile, I’m out here physically destroying myself for less money. Obviously, I know every remote job isn’t like hers, and sales can be stressful as hell, but it really opened my eyes to the fact that there are other ways to make a living.
I’m also getting into trading, and while I think I could potentially become successful at it, I know it’s not some magical solution that’s going to make me rich overnight. I’m interested in it, but I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket. There’s a million ways to make money online, whether it’s selling a product, building a brand, starting a business, finding investors, or something I haven’t even discovered yet. I just need to find what works for me and actually commit to it.
And here’s where I start questioning whether I’m being realistic or delusional.
Part of me feels like I’m meant for something bigger. I don’t know if that’s intuition, ambition, the universe, or me just getting carried away with my own ideas. But I genuinely cannot shake the feeling that I’m not supposed to spend my life working jobs that leave me exhausted, underpaid, and counting down the days until payday. I want to build something of my own. I want to have options. I want to know that if I stop working for a week, my entire life isn’t going to fall apart financially.
At the same time, I know wanting something and actually making it happen are two completely different things. Having ideas doesn’t mean shit if I never execute them. Being hungry doesn’t automatically mean I’ll succeed. And I don’t want to make a stupid decision just because I’m impatient or convinced I’m destined to be rich.
The thing is, I feel like I actually have a decent safety net if I plan this right. If my girlfriend and I both worked remotely, we could potentially rent out one of our cars and bring in extra income. I’d save on gas and commuting time. If I lost a remote sales job, I could probably go back to the restaurant I worked at for five years. I know they’d take me back, and I know I can make decent money there. So it’s not like I’d necessarily be throwing my entire life away by trying something different.
But then I think about leaving a welding job that I went to school for, just to take a chance on sales, and I wonder if I’m being an idiot. What if the remote job ends up being worse? What if I spend all this time chasing business ideas and nothing comes of them? What if I give up a stable career because I’m so focused on what happen instead of appreciating what I already have?
On the other hand, what if I stay because I’m scared, waste years doing something I already know I don’t want long-term, and regret not trying sooner?
I’m not looking for someone to tell me I’m going to be a millionaire or give me some motivational speech about following my dreams. I want honest advice from people who’ve been in a similar position. People who left traditional jobs, got into sales, started businesses, or took a chance on themselves when they were young.
Should I stick with welding until I have more money saved, or take the leap into remote sales and use that time to build something of my own? How do you figure out which risks are worth taking versus which ones are just you getting ahead of yourself?
I’m hungry as fuck to make something happen for myself. I just need to figure out how to turn that hunger into an actual plan instead of spending my life thinking about what I could be doing."

Hi everyone! I had the misfortune of being with one person of my whole life (the misfortune part is him leaving me, to be frank), and now I cannot even kiss another person. I feel like I am a 16 year old virgin again, and being 30, this is kind of unacceptable. I am tensed up, blotchy blushing, saying “no thank you” at the last moment, even tho I flirt pretty heavily. I am pushing myself to be more physically open but maybe Im just not ready. (I don’t think I’ll ever be ready) Any advice?"
