Hey, I started building up a supply of silver a few years ago. At first, I bought some investment coins and bars. At some point, I switched to buying older coins. Right now, I’m sticking to coins from my home region for example, a few 5-silver-mark coins from the German Empire. The oldest coin I currently own is an Augsburg Stadttaler from 1642. I find this absolutely fascinating. My hometown, Augsburg, is an ancient Roman city and the former capital of the Raetia region. Silver coins are regularly unearthed here during excavations, and most recently, an entire silver hoard containing over 5,500 Roman silver coins was discovered likely buried by a Roman soldier many thousands of years ago."

I am a teacher with ten years until my retirement with a modest pension (Indiana). I have an IRA with the state, two with my employer a 403b pretax ira and a VEBA that I will be vested in after this school year. All in TDFs. I also have a traditional and a Roth with Fidelity. My wife has the same (mostly, no VEBA no pre tax ira but a much bigger state IRA than me.). Everything is in the lowest cost TDFs available (wife’s Fidelity trad and Roth are in Fid Freedom funds. My Roth and Trad at Fidelity are in 50% FZROX 25% FZILX 25% FXNAX. So my question is should I be comfortable with more equity risk than Bogle would like or less due to our pensions? I have elected less risk (at least I think less, due to a lower percentage of domestic equities) with my Fidelity funds along with less cost. On one hand two pensions is like having a bond floor and I can weather more risk. On the other having two pensions means I don’t have to chase returns which I am not comfortable with unless it makes sense. Bogle’s ten rules make sense to me and I believe rough waters are ahead and the Bogle philosophy will be proven correct."
