My last car (an Acura) I had for almost 12 years before a bad accident ended that story. For reference, it only had 70k miles on it. I love the X3 and at this point I could see owning it for a while. The extended warranty doesn't seem to help me much, at most I can add 2 more years (for a total of 7 from date of original sale). I'll never hit 70k miles in the next 2.5 years. My well-respected independent maintenance shop says I should just take what I spend on an extended warranty and put it in a high-yield savings account."
