- I've cofounded a business in the past and am currently self-employed, running a few online ecommerce businesses _____ I've been self-employed for the past three and a half years after getting unexpectedly fired from my last job. The time away from traditional work has made me realize how much my personality doesn't suit the corporate world. Despite excelling at my work, I never fit in no matter where I went. It always felt performative and fake to me, and I used to dread going into the office most mornings and found myself mentally carrying things home with me. I stayed in those environments not just because they were familiar territory, but because there was this unspoken expectation to stay in that lane given what I went to school for. Part of me also felt like I'd be failing myself by not continuing to pursue that path, so I never gave lower salary jobs much consideration."
