My house isn’t large by any means, but we do have a huge backyard. Due to that, my parents decided to build our garage detached from the main house, making it its own smaller 2 story building. There isn’t any staircase in our garage though, just a rusty metal ladder leading up to a dusty overhang directly above where we would park our old car. We always had a garage fridge where my dad would keep his beer, and I would keep my sodas. I remember playing video games late at night after my parents would go to sleep, then sprinting to the garage through the pitch dark of the yard to grab a coke. We didn’t have any lights in our backyard, and the only light in the garage was an ancient lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. I would flick on that light, watch it stutter for a few seconds, then hum to a low glow before I would start making my way to the fridge each and every time."
