Looking for honest opinions, not reassurance. A few months ago I took a job as a Quality Team Lead at a mid-sized company — a brand new department, no real prior structure, no handover, nothing. It had technically existed before, folded into another department that had made more of an attempt at it than actual progress, so when I came in I had a genuinely clean slate and the freedom to build it properly. It was the highest-level position I'd ever held. I've got about 12 years in manufacturing roles — continuous improvement, quality, manufacturing engineering, R&D — including time in the industrial galvanizing sector, but always as part of an existing team with existing processes already in place. This was the first time I was building the function itself from the ground up, with real ownership instead of just executing someone else's plan."

I’m not miserable, but I wouldn’t say I’m happy either. Would you take a 9% pay cut, and lose benefits, in order to work your dream job? I’m really not sure what the right decision is right now."
