I’m doing a paid internship at a small law firm. The pay isn’t great but I really like the work and really want to get a full time offer. So leaving isn’t an easy decision The problem is how many work tools I’m paying for myself. Most of the firm’s processes and training are built around specific platforms and my manager insists they’re the best tools for the job. I also use a legal research platform for research and first drafts, chatgpt pro for outlining and repetitive admin tasks plus pdfaid for everyday document work. I tested some free pdf tools but I kept hitting their limits and having to switch between different sites to finish one task. A few of these subscriptions genuinely earn their keep because of how much time they save. Others still leave me checking or redoing a lot of the work manually. Taken together they eat up almost half my internship pay."
