28F Currently PRN at a lab (at least 2 shifts every month) at a local hospital making ~$50/hour. Super LCOL in a college town, rent is $500 and live by myself, expenses are low, and paying for medical insurance out of pocket. I work one shift and my rent is covered. I have the freedom of scheduling, the savings, and have been traveling internationally. But, I despise what I do aka the job. I could really do what I want in a sense. I’m in a sweet spot, which I am thankful for, but I am thinking of moving out of this area (not much here), and am existentially questioning what to do next. I recognize that finding a full time job in the lab somewhere else would be a BIG mistake, as I desire to leave this field. I have thought about going back to graduate school, but don’t know what. Should I bide my time, and continue traveling. The rent is just incredible. Or applying to remote jobs that pay less. I recognize that I am trying to define meaning, and it no longer is “what career to do next”, or surviving. What I don’t want to do is start manufacturing an exit, just to get out of a sore job.
